It is noted that many consumers looking for a great deal are keeping their annual tradition of camping out in front of stores leading up to the open of "Black Friday." The sole purpose of "black" Friday is to both unload mass inventory and rake in as business as possible with the goal in mind to put accounting back into the "black" from the "red" or above the debt-line. This 2012 Thanksgiving season has not come without a couple of internal issues to say the least.
While many companies are looking to boast an extra buck this Thanksgiving holiday, 18,000 union workers at Hostess have walked out of their jobs. This has caused Hostess to be forced into legal mediation with union leaders, which has failed and now Hostess must revert back to considering a company liquidation or sell-off. Maybe no pay is better than low pay?
Wal-Mart has an indeterminate amount of workers protesting for at least $25,000/year and low-cost health insurance. The company and its workers are issuing threats back-and-forth if Wal-Mart stores experience problems with workers walking out during the Black Friday weekend. Disenfranchised workers have made a website to tell their story and looking for support. Wal-Mart has been known to generate massive profits putting it ahead of even banking institutions, so it is quite interesting how employees are earning extremely low wages without any health insurance. Assuredly, there would be a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) insurance company that would be happy to receive Wal-Mart's employees at low-cost.
At Los Angeles International Airport nearly 500 airport union workers are expected to protest, which interferes with 1.8 million travelers expected to travel this Thanksgiving holiday.
