Kokesh with IVAW t-shirt |
In May 2013, U.S. Marine combat veteran and outspoken political activist, Mr. Adam Kokesh, began to organize an "Open Carry March on Washington" in protest of the stricter gun laws where his plan was to have at least 1,000 volunteers march with him in order to fully activate his plans. Quickly, the U.S. Capitol Police warned in news reports that it is illegal to "open carry" in the D.C. jurisdiction and that members of the march who violate local provisions will be detained and charged according to their infractions. Since this time Kokesh was arrested for posting a video on YouTube of him loading a shotgun at the Freedom Plaza in Washington, D.C. as a symbol of protest.
Kokesh has admitted to federal authorities that it was, in fact, a real shotgun with real ammunition as his video was meant to convey that we should not allow the government to continue to destroy our humanity and thus he expressed his intent to provoke the "next American Revolution." Kokesh has been incarcerated since 9 July 2013 where his weaponry was seized, he has been denied bail, and he plans to run in the 2020 election for the Office of the President of the United States in order to abolish the federal government.
What Kokesh does not understand is Law as he pointed out the need for "civil disobedience." Federal authorities plan to charge Kokesh with "rebellion and insurrection" where 18 USC § 2383 clearly states:
"Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States."
What this means is that any dreams or hopes Kokesh has ever had of holding any government office within the jurisdiction of the United States are now gone completely. If you wish to continue to support Kokesh in his mission to overthrow the U.S. government just be mindful that the aforementioned provision also includes those who "aid or comfort thereto" those convicted of rebellion and/or insurrection. Kokesh's next hearing is scheduled for 2 October 2013.
