Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast

According to weather reports, Hurricane Sandy has already begun to wreck havoc on the East Coast and the worst is yet to come because the super storm is still at sea and is not due to hit mainland until this evening. The storm has already caused severe damage in parts of North Carolina, Virginia, New York, and Ocean City, Maryland. New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, has issued evacuation orders on 26 public housing facilities in the midst of shutting down heat, hot water, and elevators. 45,000 New York residents were transported to local shelters. 95,000 New Jersey residents are without power.


The path of the hurricane has insurance experts speculating that with the 60 million East Coast residents that could be affects, this super storm could cost insurance companies upwards of $10 billion in damage  per day and perhaps $100 billion overall. and As of this Monday morning, Sandy has had recorded increased wind-speeds of up to a sustained 90 miles-per-hour and progressing. Many East Coast residents have flocked to their local stores in preparation to find that hardware departments are extremely low on inventory or completely emptied out.

The American Red Cross is offering "storm applications" for both Apple and Android users on the East Coast. They are also asking for monetary donations to help in the support of the predicted damage ahead.
