Colorado Shooting Kills 12, Wounds 38

A shooting occurred at a Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, Colorado last night during the midnight release of The Dark Night Rises.

Witnesses say that 24-year old, James Holmes, entered through an exit door to the movie theater dressed as the Batman villain, Bane, in black with a kevlar and gas mask covering his face. Holmes threw a couple of tear gas grenades into the crowd and then opened fire on the dispersing movie-goers with his two pistols, rifle and shot gun.

After killing 12 people and wounding 38, police found Holmes in an adjacent parking lot with a knife, rifle and handgun. As he was being detained, he told the authorities that he had explosive at his home. When they arrived to search his apartment they found that it was setup with boot-traps and they began to work on defusing the devices.

Holmes does not have a criminal or military background, but he is a medical school drop-out from the University of Colorado and was due to appear in court Monday, July 23rd, for a minor traffic violation he received in 2011.

This incident comes a week before the United States is due to sign the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.
