Shootings Rise As 21 December Approaches

Film 2012 notes 21 December as "end of world."
This year 2012 has been exhilarating to say the least. The United States has experienced a series of mass shootings ranging from the shooting in northern California in April, a cafe shooting in Washington in May, the theater shooting in Colorado in July, a Sikh Temple shooting in Wisconsin in August, the Oregon shooting earlier this week, the shooting of the elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut yesterday, and now a shooting this morning in Alabama at a hospital.

The long-held rumor of the "world ending" this December 21st probably has a lot to do with it. The unknown is what scares people the most outside of public speaking and death itself. Yes, people are also afraid of snakes, spiders, darkness, and elevators, but people can control those more than they can control the "unknown" and death. "Certain death" along with the idea of the world ending could precipitate people into a position of panic, turmoil, and "going out" with a name for themselves. Humanity yearns for control of its life and with the possibility of their fate in the hands of a common rumor might push some over the edge.

The film Knowing, starring Nicholas Cage, sets the stage for a solar flare that burned the entire planet earth 19 October 2009 and destroyed everything and everyone. It was released 7 months prior to the date noted in the film.

What is not counted above are the mass shooting earlier than this year 2012 nor the plots that were foiled by government intervention. The latest foiled mass shooting plot was in Missouri to be done at a Twilight movie premiere.
