Buffett calls it, "...the single, largest transfer of wealth that we would ever see in our lifetime."
Gates says, "...it is one of the greatest and most appealing industries that will produce the next Bill Gates."
The energy industry will completely revolutionize the world. As of this moment, the demand is so high in the United States alone that the government has created subsidy and grant incentives for both for-profit and non-profit organizations to convert their community's current use of traditional energy resources to alternative energy resources. An example of this is solar energy.
Many larger companies are adapting to the industry at this very moment because they understand the forces in the market are progressing in that direction. The forces being government, law, resources, and business.
The largest issues facing the United States at the moment are a combination of three different factors. The first one is that companies are seeking cheap labor from Mexico and China as they mass produce material at the cheapest costs to companies in the West to maximize profits.
The second is technology itself. The technology available on the market today has its levels of efficiency and inefficiency. The major breakthrough; however, will be the idea that comes along as most environmentally-friendly and greatly reduces the average cost of energy use.
The third and perhaps most challenging is that the United States and local states governments are currently in the process of energy deregulation. What I mean by this is that only 6 states of the union have "de-regulated" allowing its users to choose among the competition of energy producers. We will continue to pay our local utility companies, but what the deregulating means for everybody is that the industry will continue to de-monopolize and allow energy users to settle with competitors who offer the same energy services at cheaper rates.
